archiving

Reported by Robert Jackman | April 9th, 2013 @ 12:01 AM

when I archive email from mailmate then other mail programs such as Mailbox can see the message in the archive folder but when I do the archiving from Mailbox and from Thunderbird, then Mailmate does not see the message in its archive folder.

Do the messages never appear or do they appear after, e.g., restarting MailMate or explicitly synchronizing the mailbox?

What about Mailbox and Thunderbird, do they always see each others archived messages?

yes Mailbox and Thunderbird see each other's archived messages. I have found what is happening but I don't know how to fix it. I am using only a gmail account. Mailbox and Thunderbird archive to a folder in gmail called "Archives" while Mailmate is archiving to a folder called "Archive". I can see both folders in the list under my gmail address in SOURCES in Mailmate. But only the Archive folder is in the MAILBOXES list at the top. I guess that if I could put the Archives folder also up in the MAILBOXES list then I could keep track of things archived by the other programs. When any program moves the file from INBOX to its archive location then it disappears from the inbox of all the other mail programs.

    • State changed from “new” to “resolved”

You can do better than that:

    1. Select the “Archives” mailbox under SOURCES. Right-click it (or go to the Mailboxes menu) and note the “Mailbox Type” submenu. Select “Archive” in that menu. Whenever you archive in MailMate then this mailbox is used.

    2. Clean up: Move the messages in “Archive” to “Archives” and then delete the empty “Archive” mailbox.

You should now only have the “Archives” mailbox and MailMate should use it.

Let me know if you cannot make it work.

Great. Bonus info: If you set the Synchronization Schedule of the mailbox to “Connected” then MailMate also keeps the Archives mailbox instantly up-to-date (like the Inbox). But be aware that a limited number of simultaneous connections to the server may exist. The “Connected” state (so-called IMAP IDLE) requires an additional connection.
