Option to switch Markdown always on
Reported by Alexander Kucera | April 3rd, 2013 @ 11:29 AM
Hi Benny,
would it be possible to have a switch to always enable Markdown, no matter what? Currently, when I reply to someone that doesn't use MailMate Markdown gets turned off. However, since I often need to post URL's I'd like to have the Markdown->HTML feature always turned on to send nicely formatted HTML to my clients.
I know you have some autodetect algorithm for that, but I think it is not working right yet, or at least not for my use case. Until that is dialled in I'd like to have an override to always have Markdown enabled. At least I cannot think of a reason why I would ever disable Markdown. It is one of my favourite features in MailMate.

It's possible to add such a switch, but it would have to be a hidden option for now. The problem is that when you reply/forward then your message includes content from the replied/forwarded message which may (unintentionally) include Markdown syntax. Quite often this would mean that you would want to disable Markdown for such a message.
MailMate sends the message through Markdown conversion to see if the original message did contain anything which could be misinterpreted as Markdown syntax. You are welcome to provide examples of messages where MailMate should handle this better. Alternatively, MailMate could “escape” any Markdown syntax, but this is non-trivial and could become ugly for the plain text alternative for such a message. I haven't thought about this in detail.
