Cannot Pull Addressees from Contacts
Reported by Rochelle Broder-Singer | November 19th, 2024 @ 08:36 PM
I have tried multiple versions of MailMate, but this problem persists: I have connected Contacts to Mailmate and granted the required permissions. I am even able to see Contacts groups when creating rules/filters. However, MailMate cannot access my Contacts. When I try to address an email, it only pulls from existing email - never from my Contacts. And, the rules/filters I've created based on an address being in a particular Contacts group do not work at all. Help!!!
I'm currently in Version 1.14 (6065), having upgraded from 6065 to see if it would fix the problem.
I have turned MailMate's Contacts access off and on in the System preferences, and this didn't change anything.

Any update on this? It makes MailMate very challenging to use.

I entered "tccutil reset AddressBook" in the terminal. Of course, resetting all permissions for accessing Contacts caused several apps to crash. It also presented me with the dialogue box to allow MailMaite to access Contacts and has enabled more Contacts integration in MailMate:
- I can right-click an email address and select "View Contact" and it will open the contact, with a button to fully open it in the Contacts app.- "Select recipients in Contacts panel" works and allows me to select recipients from my Contacts. This works very slowly. I have just under 7,000 contacts.
However, I still cannot autocomplete addresses from my Contacts. I've tried toggling the setting to do so off and back on in Settings, but it has no effect. Help!

Thanks for trying the reset. That should not making anything crash, but MailMate is apparently not the only app with Contacts related issues.
I'm a bit busy on getting a new beta out (together with a lot of server/store changes), but I'd like to debug this further when I have time. I've had some similar issues reported although they were primarily related to performance with large sets of contacts. Unfortunately, I never completed debugging that. Your issue might be related.
There's a debug variable available which might reveal something:
defaults write com.freron.MailMate MmDebugContactsGroups -bool YES
To see the output, you'll need to launch MailMate from a Terminal window like this:
/Applications/MailMate.app/Contents/MacOS/MailMate
It's very likely I'll need to improve the output before we can learn more.
Is this iCloud Contacts or something else?

Thank you for starting work on this, Benny. Anything I can do to help, please ask.
Most of my contacts are iCloud Contacts, but I do also have three Google accounts in Contacts. These contain under 150 contacts total between them. Finally, I have one account listed under Directories, but it is empty.
When I launched MailMate from a Terminal window (after quitting the app), I got a response in terminal, and I got a system Problem Report for MailMate: MailMate quit unexpectedly message. The terminal output is below, but the Lighthouse system won't let me include the system report because it's so long (I think)
Terminal Output:

Is this crash reproducible? If yes, does it only happen when launching from the Terminal window?
Does it look like MailMate finds all your contacts (before crashing)?
You can send additional data needed using “Help > Send Feedback”.

It does look like MailMate finds all my contacts.
I got a totally different response this time when I launched from Terminal! First, no crash. Second, a much longer response in Terminal, which Lighthouse says is too long for me to paste here. Is there another way I can send it to you?
Here are the first few lines of the Terminal response: rochelle@Mac ~ % /Applications/MailMate.app/Contents/MacOS/MailMate

You can send additional data using “Help > Send Feedback” in MailMate.
The output does seem to indicate a problem. I'll add some debug output which might make this clearer using the next update of MailMate.
