How to use MailMate to view local .MBOX email archive file
Reported by Chris Harasty | November 4th, 2024 @ 09:10 AM
Hi
I have downloaded MailMate. I dont want to connect to my Google
Workspace account as I use Chrome to handle my current emails.
I have taken a backup of my emails and downloaded them onto my
local hard drive as a .MBOX file. I want to use MailMate to
view my old emails. I should be able to go File > Import
Messages and select the .MBOX file but the "Import Messages"
menu
option is greyed out. How do I fix this problem and Import the
.MBOX mail archive?
Regards
Chris

MailMate doesn't really support local emails, but if you are only going to use MailMate like this then I'd recommend simply creating a dummy offline IMAP account (with bogus settings). You can then create mailboxes within it and import into those.
In general, I don't recommend dummy accounts because they do not work intuitively when moving emails between online and offline accounts.
