Microsoft account keeps working, but constantly shows "login error" problem
Reported by Alexander Babaev | January 28th, 2024 @ 04:36 PM
I've MS account (@live.com), being using that for years. A week ago or so it started to show "login error" problem dialog. I've regenerated app-specific password, but it still shows it. After I press "OK" there, it works for a while, until the error shows again.
Here are connection logs (look for the "Error: Server response: “C1 NO LOGIN failed.”" part, that is the message that bugs me):

I have the same issue. It is really annoying. My hotmail account was working perfectly before. Could it be something change server side?

Some server side change is likely involved since I've had several reports similar to this recently. Here are my current recommendations (it has worked differently in the past):
- Use these officially supported settings. In particular, note the SMTP settings.
- Do NOT use OAuth2 (this kind of worked in some earlier version of MailMate, but it was never officially supported by Microsoft).
- Use an application specific password.
I'm unsure what will trigger the intermittent errors, but maybe we can look into if it might be triggered by too many logins in a short period of time or something like that if the above does not help.

Maybe also make sure you try the (currently) latest test version of MailMate: https://updates.mailmate-app.com/archives/MailMate_r6021.tbz

I did all these things (officiall settings, app-specific password etc.), it did not help. Will try the latest test version now, thanks!
