Command-K to link text mis-formats the resulting Markdown

To reproduce:
- Get a URL in your clipboard
- Compose a new message
- Select some text and hit Command-K
- Observe the selected text is now a link to the URL via Markdown
What happens:
- The URL itself is blue and underlined AND
- The terminal parenthesis is blue and underlined
- Backspacing the terminal parenthesis and retyping it clears the issue
What I expected to happen:
- The URL itself, and not the terminal parenthesis, is blue and underlined
