yahoo mail problems

Reported by Robert Jackman | January 9th, 2013 @ 03:59 PM

for the last two days I have been having problems with checking mail on yahoo. Much of the time the progress wheels in MailMate are spinning in yahoo related folders. I get an error often which reads: IMAP problem for "yahoo" account MailMate encountered the following error: "Failed SSL handshake.". and then the Mailbox: which varies but currently is "Inbox". I am attaching an image of the error message.
I have tried not requiring ssl, but nothing seems to change this. Perhaps it is something happening at Yahoo, but I was wondering if there are any tweaks I could make to the yahoo account to remedy this.

I haven't (yet) heard anything from other Yahoo users. Yahoos IMAP implementation is (to put it mildly) not among the best, but that does not mean that MailMate is not to blame. When you see this requester you can hold down ⇧ when clicking “Retry” and a log file should be generated on the Desktop. That might help me resolve the problem.

I have a Yahoo test account which I just took online. It did not seem to have any problems synchronizing.

I found something else, that there is another imap server for yahoo called imap-ssl.mail.yahoo.com. I set MailMate for that and I first got a new error, that the certificate was not right or not trusted or something. Anyway, I looked at the certificate and it seemed to be from the right place so I set it to always be trusted and then it continued on and now it is working. And the wheel is not spinning anymore. I restarted just to make sure it would work again and I had to allow it to use that server but since it is now trusted it didn't have any more problems and now it is working again. It still makes me uneasy about Yahoo.

That was also the server used by my test account (imap-ssl.mail.yahoo.com). Thanks for reporting the problem anyways. Others might find this ticket useful.
