Window Priority

Reported by Robert Miller | March 26th, 2022 @ 03:57 PM

Switching between windows puts the main application window in front, rather than an active message. Since the main window tends to be larger, this will cover the message. Activities like copy/paste, where windows are switched often, gets to get slowed down while adjusting window locations so some portion is exposed.

A solution would be to add new messages to the MacOS Command-Tab list of applications, or have the new message given priority. Not sure if either is possible, of if MacOS is getting in the way...

Thanks!

I'm not sure I quite understand this issue. The most recently used window should be at the front when switching from/to MailMate using command-tab. That would be your new message if you are in the process of writing it. What am I missing?

Note that there is also a shortcut to switch windows within an app. It depends on your keyboard layout, but for me it's command-` (above tab) and shift-command-`.

(It's not possible to override command-tab behavior.)

This is my mistake for not being more clear. I'm speaking about when various window switch results in the main application getting put in front, there's no way to recall the smaller new message window to the front.

Perhaps this comes up in my work flow. I receive new client requests in one e-mail (which is read from the main application 3 panel layout), I write a quotation in another application, and I write a new e-mail in another. That new e-mail gets buried as I switch between windows copy/pasting address, etc. I seemed to me that when you Command-Tab an application, it should present it's smaller windows to the front. Perhaps this is not the standard practice for MacOS GUI.

Yes, this would be non-standard behavior if MailMate did it. Consider minimizing such a window for easier access (command+M). This works in all applications. Or as I noted, learn the window-tab'ing shortcuts for moving around windows within the same app (described above). This will also work in all applications.
