MM goes into compute bound loop until restarted

Reported by Jon Sutton | July 13th, 2021 @ 08:29 PM

In the past week or so, I have started to have a problem where MM goes into a compute bound loop using 100% of a single core.

MM remains responsive to the keyboard and mouse, so I assume that only a single thread is looping. After a short period of time all of my accounts are marked “(unavailable)”. I can manipulate messages locally, but any operation that involves the server fails.

Restarting MM cures the problem for a while. I have not been able to correlate any specific activity with this issue. I have reproduced this on three different machines, though it happens far more often on one than the others. The one that it happens most often is a desktop that I leave running all of the time. It contains all of my MM rules so all incoming mail is processed. I do not have rules defined on the other Macs.

I am running 5819; macOS 11.4. I upgraded to this MM release after the problem started to see if would resolve but there was no change.

I attempted to enable logging using:

defaults write com.freron.MailMate LoggingEnabled -bool YES
But I can’t find where the any log file is created.

I rebuilt the database on all three Macs - no change.

I have a mix of iCloud, Google and Comcast mail accounts. I have heard that iCloud has been having some server issues recently. Not sure if this may be related.

Any recommendations for debugging this issue? Thanks.
