Mailmate extremely slow under Catalina

After running MM (1.13.2 at present) for years on Mojave on multiple laptops, I upgraded a machine to Catalina.
Immediately experienced extreme slowdown in every part of the application - loading, editing, previewing messages, searching messages, sending messages. The application is nearly unusable because of the long pauses, difficulty in editing.
Still works fine (normal snappy speed) on a different Mac running Mojave.
I've searched online and can't find any other mention of issues with Catalina, but not aware of anything else that has changed during the upgrade that could impact this.

Note, I did find this mention and tried it but it did not help (this individual found an issue related to accountsd)
