archived message staying selected in correspondence view

Reported by Lars | April 4th, 2021 @ 09:25 AM

Running MailMate 1.14 (5782) on macOS 11.2.3 (20D91), running the arm version.

After I archive a single message, the next message in that folder is shown.

Occasionally, although the focus moved to the next message in the upper message list, the Correspondence window shows a selection including the archived message and the next message. This also causes both of them to be displayed in the preview pane underneath each other.

This does not always happen, but has been quite consistent over days, if not weeks, to occur fairly often.

When I click into an empty part of the message list and back onto the message, there is no double selection occurring anymore.

I'll keep an eye out for this, but it'll help me if you let me know if you figure out what seems to trigger the issue.

I have not been able to capture this exact behaviour, but I can offer the following (screen capture available if you would like to see it), maybe it is related:

I receive hourly status updates from a backup task. I go into their folder and select the newest one from the preview pane. The Correspondence pane populates and I select any message that has not been archived yet from it. Then I archive them. Because that includes all messages in the current folder, the currently active message disappears from the main message list and the preview pane.

I would expect MailMate to select the next message (since I sort by Date Received with the most recent at the bottom, that would be the message at the bottom of the list).
While it does select that message, it does not get the main focus. At that point there is no focus anywhere within the window, although MailMate is the active application. As a side effect, the Correspondence pane is entirely empty, even if the message selected in the main message window should have content displayed in the Correspondence pane.

If I unselect the message in the main message list and select it again, it gets the correct focus and the Correspondence pane gets filled accordingly.

Now, to me this appears as it may be related. At the point where "there is no focus anywhere within the window" as outlined above, I would – in other instances – have the issue that I described earlier happening. It might be that it depends on whether (after the archival clears out the previously selected message in the main message list) the next message shares the same Correspondence pane contents (e. g. it is from the same sender).

Maybe there is something in my observations that helps. Let me know if you would like to see a screen capture.

The lost focus is likely a helpful hint and we should focus on that first. Could you try launching MailMate from a Terminal window and then see if there is any output when this issue is triggered:

    /Applications/MailMate.app/Contents/MacOS/MailMate

I have not yet been able to capture either of them again, but while trying I sometimes receive the following when I delete multiple messages at once:

Warning: mailboxesOutline received callback from unknown query: $'8F4AF7E4-1834-4179-A17B-DDB6EF61E388' (Today (filtered)) It is ok if it is a performQuery arriving too late (and it is released when the performSelector data is released)

Aside from that it currently works. I will keep using MailMate with the output enabled and also record it for you whenever possible, so it is easier to reproduce.

(Thinking it may also be related to some timing issue, because gpg is very slow to decrypt the messages on this machine and almost all of my messages are encrypted.)
