default account not working

I have several email accounts and the mailmate has a strange way to pick the from account. even if all my mail from and to joe@xx.com is from my account aa.com it picks bb.com
even if I go into preferences and say, use account aa.com by default mailmate does not honor that and aways picks bb.com.
and in my case bb.com is never used to send mail, its only for incoming postlists, so should not be picked, never.
its a really annoying bug for me
