Edit smart mailbox with many "From" conditions slow performance

I'm experiencing very slow performance when trying to edit the conditions of a smart mailbox with a large amount of conditions. It takes more than 2 minutes to open the edit mailbox dialog, while MailMate is blocked and beachballs during that time.
Background: I'm trying to keep a list of email addresses and group all of the messages in a smart mailbox. The list of "From" conditions is now >400. If there is a workaround, I'm happy to try something else.
Using MailMate 5721 on macOS Catalina 10.15.7.

this thread: https://freron.lighthouseapp.com/projects/58672/tickets/237-conditi.... talks about a way to what you want to do - if you keep the e-mail list in apple contacts, but it is still a bluesky concept. If you jump over there and see if you want to upvote it, one more voice couldn't hurt.

Thanks for the pointer. However, it's different from what I'm trying to achieve: I don't want to have those addresses in Apple Contacts, but simply as conditions in MailMate — but without the slow performance.
Ideally, it would just read the addresses from a text file — but that's something which is probably too specific and something more related to my use case.
