  I have the same problem. I believe that I have done everything correctly based on the help file. I can successfully use the "built-in" Gmail key bindings. But when I copy the Gmail.plist file to the correct Library directory and add it to the preferences, that file is not accepted even if I've made no changes to it. I can tell it's not working because when I try one of the keystrokes, my computer "bings" and nothing happens. If I switch back to the built-in Gmail plist, then the keystrokes work.

  OK, after months of messing with this, I finally read more other tickets and email forum messages. I was able to determine that yes, I had a typo in my keybindings file. I debugged by commenting out different lines in the file. So now my custom keybindings are working.

  @Lisa: I'm glad you figured it out.

  @Gwap: I actually thought this feature was broken (by changes in macOS), but I looked into it and the feature only works with specific Trackpad settings. For now, I've added the following to Standard.plist:

  // This only works if “System Preferences ▸ Trackpad” allows it. For example, configure it as follows:
  //  1. Swipe between pages with 3 fingers. (Needed for horizontal swipes to work.)
  //  2. Swipe between full screen apps with 4 fingers. (Needed for vertical swipes to work.)
  //  3. Mission control / App Expose with 4 fingers. (Needed for vertical swipes to work.)
