Keyboard Shortcuts Are Not Always Applied

Reported by Mike Conley | September 27th, 2019 @ 05:39 PM

I'm having only mixed results trying to customise my keyboard shortcuts. They seem to apply or not apply without any clear rhyme or reason.

For example, I want to override the Message > Mark as Read shortcut and set it to command-M. Nothing I do seems to work. I've tried defining a key binding file with the following directive:-

"@m" = ("setTag:", '$Seen');

but the shortcut that appears in the menu remains command-shift-M. I've also tried redefining the shortcut in the System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts settings, but that, too, fails.

There are other examples as well. Either I'm doing something wrong or the key binding mechanism does not work as it should.

    I've changed this line to

    "@m" = ("setTag:", '\\Seen');

    Not sure where I got the '$' syntax from, but, anyway, it makes no difference. Still doesn't work. Neither does

    "@j" = "forwardMessage:";

    I also note that if, for example, I use the System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts pane to define a shortcut to use as a toggle (e.g., command-D assigned to both Show Raw Message and Show Formatted Message, with the intention that pressing command-D simply toggles between the two commands), the shortcut is not recognised until I click on or otherwise make visible the View menu, after which it works as expected.

    It would be nice if MM offered a keyboard mapping preference (see Mailsmith for the best example of this anywhere) that allowed us to define keyboard shortcuts within the app itself, including the ability to change or delete keyboard shortcuts and entire menu items as we desire.
