Unexpected message deletion

As you know, I have a custom keybinding 'd' that sets the \Deleted IMAP keyword (along with other key bindings to undelete, expunge, etc, as I like to use IMAP the way it was intended, by deleting messages in place without moving them to some trash folder). I get a nice red dot in the "Read" column to indicate such a deleted message.
Here's the problem: I replied to a message I was reading under one the "Tagged" smart mailbox's submailboxes, after which I hit 'd' to mark it deleted. When I then went to look at my reply in the Sent Messages folder, it was also marked deleted (via the presence of that red dot)!
I cannot immediately tell f this is 100% reproducible. I do know I have successfully replied to messages viewed directly in my Inbox without a subsequent 'd' impacting the status of the reply in my Sent Messages mailbox.

Okay, this only seems to happen when replying to (and then deleting) messages that I have tagged.
