messages auto-marked as read without being read

Reported by Robert Brenstein | December 28th, 2017 @ 01:20 PM

I just noticed a very peculiar bug. See the attached screencast. In the list, I have several unread messages as indicated by the blue bullets in the first column. I open one msg, then delete it. The msg window is closed as expected (I use the two-pane mode, opening all msgs in their own windows) and the message is removed from the list. Watch the next message in the list which now moves into its place -- after a couple seconds, it is marked as read without me doing anything. I upgraded to Mailmate Version 1.10 (5443) just recently and was offline (like in not using MM at all) for a week, which might explain why I haven't noticed that before. This was not an issue in the previous version as far as I can tell.

    Curious. MM stopped doing that.

Seems to be a layout state issue. Notice in the screencast that there is a sliver of a message open in the bottom part of the window. This triggers the autoread feature. You might want to make sure that the message view is hidden in the View ▸ Layout menu.

Ahh, yes, that explains why it started working fine after a while. At some point, I did notice that the message preview/view pane was showing almost a line of a msg and fixed it but did not connect the two. Now, the new question is why that did happen. I mean why MM made a sliver of the msg pane visible. I will keep watching for that.

For the record, this is also discussed in ticket #1903.
