Quoted text in replies
Reported by Gary Rybak | October 25th, 2017 @ 07:23 PM
Hello,
I just updated my work laptop to 10.12.6 and I am seeing some odd behavior in MailMate, mostly in the display of emails and in replies.
Most of my emails seem to display correctly, but when I choose to reply to the email, the quoted text does not appear. Instead, what looks like some kind of hash string shows up:

But I also noted that a few emails were not displaying in the preview window. They look like an empty email. This happened with the confirmation email from lighthouseapp.com when I registered for the forum here. I had to open the email in an alternate app to see the content. But when I reply to those emails that don't show the body, the full quoted text appears as expected in the reply.
If I turn on the option "Only include selected text", then the selected text (in emails where something is displayed) does indeed show up in the reply. The emails that are not displaying still quote the entire email text.
It may or may not be related, but it also seems like the "Search all messages" search is not taking place. When I enter some search text that I know should limit the number of found entries, nothing happens. The app used to create a mailbox search out of the request, but that does not seem to be happening any more.
Thanks,
Gary Rybak

This indicates that some external script is failing when generating emails.
Could you try launching MailMate from a Terminal window like this:
/Applications/MailMate.app/Contents/MacOS/MailMate
That should result in errors being output in the Terminal window.
I don't know if the searching issue is somehow related. (This also calls an external script so it's theoretically possible.)
Let me know what you find.

Thanks, Benny.
I ran the app from the command line, and did indeed get some errors when I tried to reply to an email. I had an issue with my Ruby installation after the system update, and I thought I had fixed it. But the errors were showing an undefined method error in one of the gem modules.
I wiped ruby and reinstalled everything, and now it seems to be working. It has fixed both the reply issue and the search issue.
I do still get the following notifications when I start MailMate from the command line, but it does not seem to be affecting the operation of the app.

- State changed from new to resolved
I don't think I can do anything about the warnings (it's an Apple issue) other than switch to a different framework (for Contacts). I've been postponing that, because the newer framework is 10.11+.
