SPF record?

Reported by Cheshire | July 17th, 2017 @ 11:17 PM

Hi there -- some of my emails are going to people's spam boxes, so Google is helping me add SPF records to my host. Does MailMate have a specific SPF value, and if so, can you please send that to me?

Thanks very much,
Cheshire

That's not how SPF works. This should be handled by the Google SMTP server and as long as you use that to send your emails then it should work. The email client does not play a role in this other than using the SMTP server you specify.

Thanks, Benny -- I told the Google support person what you said, and they replied that perhaps Mailmate uses an IP that I can add to my MX record instead?

The problem is that occasional emails of mine are ending up in people's spam folders, and it's potentially costing me thousands of dollars in lost revenue. So I need to do whatever I can do to ensure that my emails end up in the right place.

So: is there such an IP for Mailmate that I can add to my MX?

    Thanks,
    Cheshire

No, MailMate is a desktop email client. It doesn't have an IP. Servers have IPs, e.g., Googles IMAP and SMTP servers have IPs.

Another way to put it: It makes no difference if you use Apple Mail or MailMate with respect to SPF. They both talk to the same SMTP server when sending emails.

I'm not sure what the Google support person is trying to tell you... Does he/she understand that MailMate is a desktop email client?

(I'm not an SPF expert and therefore I cannot really provide advice on what you need to put in your MX records.)
