External References are autoloaded when replying to a HTML mail

Reported by Stefan Seiz | July 1st, 2017 @ 07:43 AM

When receiving mails, MailMate auto blocks loading of external references (images) in HTML mails. This is very good.

However, when replying to such a mail by hitting the reply button, which quotes the whole content in the reply, all external images (referenced in the quoted text) get automatically loaded (and not blocked) as one can clearly confirm by looking at the preview pane.

External references/images should generally be blocked, no matter of you are viewing a received email or replying to one.

This might be a tough problem to solve, as one would possibly want to preview external references one entered herself into the reply, so the blocking should possibly only apply to quoted content somehow.

I could just observe the same.

External references are used for tracking and a log of other privacy violations. I don't want that :D

This is still an issue as of Version 1.13.2 (5673).

A workaround is to set the Replying/Forwarding HTML preference in the Composer preferences to Never embed. But that also means that you lose formatting from markdown when replying and forwarding, since those are originally sent as HTML.
