fast archiving

Reported by Thibaud | July 6th, 2011 @ 12:04 AM

I generally archive my messages by series. So I have several messages to archive in a range, I skip one message to keep in my Inbox, etc.

Because my eyes go quicker than my fingers, I like to see what is the next message to Archive or skip before it is actually selected. The problem is when the selected message is at the top or at the bottom (depending on the ascendant or descendant chosen sorting) of the window. It prevents me to know in advance what is going to be the next message and so I am not as efficient as when I knew it.

My proposition is to keep, as long as possible, the selected message at the vertical center of the window. Some word processors have this really nice feature and I think it is a very smart one: the data come to the eye and not the opposite.

I looked into the technical aspects and I think I could make something
like this work. I noted that Apple Mail “solves” it by
jump-scrolling whenever changing the selection to something outside the
currently visible items. I haven't checked any other applications.

If implemented, it is going to be optional.
