message URL handler hijacked by MailMate
Reported by Robert Black | August 21st, 2016 @ 01:59 AM
Hi.
I have a problem... I'm using a script in Mail.app, to capture a link back to the current message for use as a reference to it in a FileMaker database. e.g. message://%3cD14D50F5-F558-4FDD-9C64-F931A5305ABF@xzyrobert.com%3e
The problem I'm having is that even though I've set 'Mail' as my "Default email reader" in Mail.app, MailMate is intercepting all calls to the 'message' url handler.
I've installed RCDefaultApp.prefPane to manually map the 'message' url handler to Mail.app, and this works temporarily. However, as soon as MailMate is launched or running, it seems to rewrite itself as the protocol handler for 'message'. It seems to me that it should be respecting the choice of "Default email reader". Is there some way to stop it setting itself as the default handler?
Cheers
Robert

BTW, I'm not discounting the possibility that this is the manifestation of a System bug, and nothing to do with MailMate, other than it's ability to handle the protocol.

This might be related to the bug discussed here. Also read that for possible workarounds/fixes.
But I'm not quite sure about that. It sounds like Apple Mail does stick as your default email client for
mailto:
URLs, butmessage:
is still handled by MailMate. You should be able to fix that by using MailMate to configure Apple Mail as your default email client (given that you don't run into the bug that I linked to).MailMate reassigns both
mailto:
andmessage:
to Apple Mail when switching default email client (I think Apple Mail also does that, but maybe something failed for some reason).I hope this helps.
