Office 365 error: MailMate encountered the following error: “Detected sequence number (115805) larger than the number of messages (115803) reported by EXISTS. Command: 'E7 UID FETCH 171342:* (INTERNALDATE)'.”. Mailbox: “INBOX”.

Reported by Roland Dobbins | July 19th, 2016 @ 07:09 AM

My company recently migrated from Google Apps to Office365 (backwards, I know). I believe the version of Exchange running on Office365 is Exchange Server 2010.

I deleted the Google IMAP account, then created a new IMAP account for Office 365.

After syncing 13,633 messages, I get the following error message:

MailMate encountered the following error: “Detected sequence number (115805) larger than the number of messages (115803) reported by EXISTS. Command: 'E7 UID FETCH 171342:* (INTERNALDATE)'.”.
Mailbox: “INBOX”.

I'm then given the choice to retry, try later, or take the account offline.

Your kind assistance greatly appreciated, many thanks!

I assume “Retry” does not work?

The error detected by MailMate is a serious server issue. The server identifies a message which cannot exist which means that something is likely seriously wrong. It is dangerous for MailMate to allow you to do anything with the mailbox, because index numbers might be incorrectly matched with messages. If you like then I can verify that this is a server issue if you provide a log as follows:

    • Open the Activity Viewer (⌥⌘0).
    • Take the account online.
    • Wait for the error and click “Retry”.
    • When the error reappears then take it offline.
    • Use “Help ▸ Send Server Logs”.

    Thanks in advance.

(My guess is that more than 100K messages in a mailbox might trigger some Office365 bug.)
