Auto-updating to r5213 breaks multiuser support
Reported by Jake | February 11th, 2016 @ 03:50 PM
After updating to r5213, MailMate stopped working this morning on my desktop computer for one local user, but not another. I've been able to reproduce the behaviour:
- Download/install MailMate 1.9.3 as user bob
- Enable experimental features and enable checking for beta
releases
- Restart mailmate. Allow mailmate to download and install r5213.
MailMate will restart, and works fine for user bob.
- Logout or switch to another user (alice).
- When trying to start MailMate from the Applications folder as user alice, an error appears (see screenshot).
If you switch back to bob's account, MailMate will function correctly.

The auto-updater in MailMate does not handle multiuser-installs very well. It's a bug which I'm apparently taking a very long time to fix...
The easiest is to install it twice in
/Users/.../Applications/
since then future updates won't break it. It'll update twice, but it's less of a hassle (MailMate is a relatively small install).Alternatively, you need to change the permissions of the app via “Get Info” in the Finder.
I'll mark the ticket as “accepted” in the sense that it'll track any progress on the update bug.
