Blank Body

Receiving some messages (from a mailing list) with no body whatsoever. Other messages are coming in fine. I can't send any message with any content; everything I write disappears -- or never appears in the first place: I write in the top half of the compose window, but no text appears in the bottom half. When I "Reply" to an incoming message, the compose window no longer quotes the original message, whether I highlight any text or not.
Using r5187 on Macbook Pro 17" 2011, 10.11.1

Ok, my guess is that MailMate failed to run some external scripts, but I don't know what would have triggered this (system wise).
