UI enhancement request: "History" and searches

I often find myself drilled down sufficiently in MailMate that I don't know what I'm looking at anymore.

I realize the search criteria at the top are probably intended to show you what you're looking at, but for some reason it isn't standing out enough or isn't similar enough to other applications maybe?

Since you can save those drilling expeditions as a smart folder, would it be perhaps good to mimic the behavior of other applications creating smart folders, like Finder?

    Are you thinking of the specialized window title in Finder while
    searching (with the smart folder icon)?

    (I'm not really sure there is a public API for the behavior of the proxy icon in the Finder window title, so I may not be able to do this at
    all.)

    On a related note: In the next update I have added escape (⎋) as an
    alternative key for dismissing a search. Previously you could only do it
    by using Back in History (⌘[).

    I believe the proxy icon in the window title may be more accessible in Lion. Screenshots I've seen show even Terminal.app shows them for every cwd.

    Ok, I understand now. Don't expect changes in this area soon. I do have
    some plans for doing Mailbox Search differently and I'll keep in mind
    that the “search mode” should be more obvious.

    Proxy icon: The cwd is a location on disk, so that would not be a
    problem. The problem I was thinking of was that the Finder uses a smart
    mailbox icon while searching which does not match a file/folder on disk.
    I could create such a file/folder in some temp location. Maybe that is
    what the Finder does although the Finder does not allow the proxy icon
    to be dragged anywhere (kind of strange that it can be dragged at all).
