Tags and remove from side bar

Hi
sorry for this (dumb?) question
Am using tags a lot so have created new tags whenever I can
But then I changed my mind on some of my tags - which appear on my
"mailboxes" side bien arrivé. kiss
Problem: I can't remove them. I can only rename them but
not remove them

You can remove tags in the Tags preferences pane. Well, technically you only remove the mapping from tag name to IMAP keyword. You might want to untag the emails instead. That also makes the tags mailbox disappear.
Note, renaming a Tags mailbox doesn't rename the tag. (I guess that could be a bit counter intuitive.)

thanks for the rapid answer
I did have untag the email (and have even deleted the tagged emails on top of it) but the Tag Mailbox still remains in my side-bar..
Also where can I find the Tags preference pane?tks

It's available via the “MailMate ▸ Preferences...” menu item.
If all messages in the Tags submailbox are untagged (the mailbox is empty) then it should disappears when deselected. It will certainly happen if MailMate is relaunched.
