One account is unavailable
Reported by PatrickH | August 14th, 2015 @ 06:18 PM
I am having a problem with my university email account when using MailMate. It had been working fine until today. This account is not a Gmail account. I do have some Gmail accounts, and they are working fine in MailMate.
I received a huge attachment in my university email account, causing my email account storage space to be exceeded. I was unable to access my university email account on my iPhone or through MailMate (it was marked "unavailable").
I used the "Outlook Web App" in Safari to delete the email with the attachment and to empty the deleted email folder. I could then get email using my iPhone. However, MailMate continued to list the account as unavailable.
I then used the Synchronize account function, restarted MailMate, restarted my Mac, deleted the account from MailMate and added it back as a new account, but even the new account is marked "unavailable."
I'll appreciate any help you can give me.
My system: MailMate/5084 iMac14,2/x86_64/4/10.10.5
Thanks,
Patrick

- State changed from new to cantreproduce
First try the latest test version to make sure this is not a problem I've already fixed: Hold down ⌥ when clicking “Check Now” in the Software Update preferences pane.
Then try sending me some data (if it doesn't work):
- Open the “Activity Viewer” (⌥⌘0).
- Relaunch MailMate.
- Wait for the “unavailable” state.
- Send me logs using “Help ▸ Send Server Logs”.
Thanks in advance.

Thank you, Benny. I tried the test version, but that did not help. I have sent the logs to you via email.

I don't seem to be able to connect to the server at all. I've tried both standard ports like this:
openssl s_client -connect imap.obu.edu:993 openssl s_client -connect imap.obu.edu:143 -starttls imap
And without SSL:
telnet imap.obu.edu 143
Maybe the server does not work with IMAP at all. Note that Apple/iOS Mail can connect using a native Exchange protocol. MailMate cannot do that. It requires IMAP to be enabled.

Benny, it was working fine until my account's storage space was exceeded.

The IMAP settings I was given for the account are:
IMAP setting Server name: imap.obu.edu Port: 993 Encryption method: SSL
SMTP setting Server name: mail.obu.edu Port: 587 Encryption method: TLS
I don't know where to select TLS in Mailmate. In the past, I kept SSL checked for SMTP and it worked.

I think it is a coincidence that it stopped working when it did. It doesn't work now -- and the problem is before logging in and shouldn't be related to your specific account. Ask your IT people why this doesn't work:
openssl s_client -connect imap.obu.edu:993
This does work by the way:
openssl s_client -connect mail.obu.edu:587 -starttls TLS
So the problem is only the IMAP server.
MailMate automatically uses TLS when needed (today, SSL often also means TLS, the difference is a technical detail).

Benny, Thank you very much! I contacted IT. They've acknowledged that there is a problem and are working on it.
Close this if you'd like.
