Spamsieve not seeing all incoming mail

Reported by Bob Arasmith | July 31st, 2015 @ 04:32 PM

I am using Mailmate as a Spamsieve drone on Mac OS 10.10.4.

About 30% of my spam remains in my inbox with the unread flag set even though there are SpamSieve blacklist rules that would have flagged it as spam. When I open the SpamSieve log file I can see that these messages have not been processed by SpamSieve. Although messages before and after are processed fine.

I have a number of imap clients looking at the the same accounts but none have any rules configured.

Can you think of any reason why MailMate would not be passing these messages to SpamSieve? Is there a log in MailMate that will show issues passing mail to spamsieve?

I am monitoring 4 accounts and they all seem to share the problem.

There is a debug variable which can be enabled in a Terminal window:

defaults write com.freron.MailMate DebugSpamDetection -bool YES

Then quit MailMate and launch it from the Terminal window:

    /Applications/MailMate.app/Contents/MacOS/MailMate

That should log all communication with SpamSieve.

MailMate should send all messages to SpamSieve. You might want to verify your settings in the Security preferences pane.

You can also enable the “SpamSieve Score” column in the Inbox to see if the messages have received a score.

Sorry for digging up a 5 yo post - but it perfectly fits my problem.

I have MailMate Version 1.13.1 (5675) running on El Cap- mac OSX 10.11.6 and since moving my webserver and email domain the spamsieve/mailmate interface no longer works - using info in this thread I now have an answer - by following the above info and sending myself an email I get an error code :-

"1 new messages detected (SpamSieve detection is enabled) Not part of query: $'imap://XXX%40XXX.com@mail.XXXX.com/INBOX'.filter(#flags.flag !=[x] '$NotJunk').filter(#import-date !exists) (0 messages) "

mail.XXXX.com is the old server in the old imap account - that is now deleted what needs resetting to get mailmate to look into the correct email account - please help without spam filtering MailMate is unusable to me

In the inbox the spamsieve score is blank.

I have replaced the actual email address and domain with XXXX

    Thanks

    Malc

Help please - I am sinking in spam - much more and I have to move to another email client - I've asked SpamSieve, I've forwarded all that to Benny, I've posted on here.

Is there any way of just resetting everything ???

    Thanks,

    Malc

Sorry about the late reply! What is your “Apply to new messages” setting in the Security preferences pane?

    Hi Benny,

"Apply to new messages in " - "Inbox"

    FYI

This fixed it - from Benny

"What does this return in a Terminal window:

defaults read com.freron.MailMate | grep SpamSieve
After trying that, try switching the “Apply to new messages” setting in the Security preferences pane to some random mailbox and then back to the universal Inbox (if that's what you want)."

Just by changing the folder for Spamsieve from Inbox to a sub box and back again and now it all works - thanks.
