Specific IMAP account delays in marking messages as "read"

Reported by jaydonaldson | April 6th, 2015 @ 01:25 AM

One of the four IMAP accounts I have set-up will frequently not update messages as "read" after viewing. Then, after about 10 minutes they will eventually update to read.

After reading or clicking on them, they will instantly go to "read" and then immediately become "unread" again.

It's only one IMAP account (a godaddy hosted email account). It could be something on the hosting side of things, but figured I'd make a ticket just because it's been frustrating and you might know how to fix! Thanks!

It does sound like it's an issue with a particular server. You can create log files for me like this:

    • Open the Activity Viewer (⌥⌘0).
    • Trigger the issue.
    • Use “Help ▸ Send Server Logs”.

Then I can see what happens when MailMate tells the server to mark the email as seen.

I've noticed the same problem with GoDaddy. I've had other issues with GoDaddy and Apple Mail. This email account is not my own setup, have to use it for work. I'm looking to find an email client that can work around the GoDaddy IMAP problems, hopefully you can resolve this issue. I've sent you some server logs. To expand on the issue, you can "synchronize" the account instead of waiting 10 minutes and the messages will be marked as "read" properly. In the server log, after updating the "seen" flag there is a line that says... Warning: Flags not as expected. Rechecking after NOOP (workaround for buggy servers).

    Thanks!
