Markdown: Shortcuts for bold and italic (cmd-b etc.)

When I type markdown documents in Textmate, I can press Cmd-b
(resp. Cmd-i) to wrap the selected word into ...
resp. ....
Would be great if I could do that in MailMate too!

OK, this system also has markdown ;-)
I meant: wrap in ** **, resp. * *
