tag not saved

Reported by Jeff Y. | March 11th, 2015 @ 07:45 PM

First of all, thank you so much for making an awesome IMAP client that works awesomely well everywhere. You've managed to make a client with essential features that are buggy in Apple Mail and not implemented elsewhere (like moving messages between IMAP accounts). (Although, we don't agree on adding a "local" account feature.)

Anyway, I'm trying to keep track of messages where I ask a question, and need to make sure I follow up later if I don't get an answer. I tried to add a "pendingreply" tag, but after the message was sent / received, the tag was nowhere to be found. It doesn't seem to stick for gMail messages or Zoho messages.

For the same reason, I would also like to add tags to old messages (like flags for a specific purpose), but I don't see a way to do that.

Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks!
-Jeff

Gmail has a “feature” where it automatically places a sent message in the Sent mailbox. It also has a “feature” which means that only 1 copy of any message can exist in the IMAP account. MailMate tries to upload the sent message to the Sent mailbox (with the tag), but it's then undefined what happens. Apparently the IMAP keyword is lost. It'll probably work if you tag the message after sending has completed.

The problem with Zoho might be that custom IMAP keywords are not supported although that should normally just mean that the keyword only exists locally. We can debug this if you like.

I'm not sure I understand your last question, but if you are asking how to tag message then it's done simply by hitting T. You can change the shortcut in the Tags preferences pane.

Thanks, that all makes sense. I can tag a message after it was sent with "T". And, since I want the same process to work on all of my accounts, I'll just do the same for Zoho.

I don't see the message headers updated in gMail. Are they only stored locally? If so, is there any risk that "syncing" or the like will revert my keywords to the empty set stored on the server?

    Thanks!

FYI, it seems like Zoho supports IMAP labels directly in their web interface, so maybe they just do the same type of thing as gMail for sent messages.

The tags are not stored in the headers. They are stored as IMAP keywords. For Gmail, you can use the Gmail preferences pane to map a tag to a Gmail label if you would like to see in the web interface. Then, at least in theory, MailMate should attempt to keep the two things in sync. MailMate then also automatically ignores the IMAP folder corresponding to the Gmail label (Gmail is very non-standard).

    I don't know about Zoho.

This is all very clear. Thanks!
