Forwarding html email destroys the html
Reported by Ilsa Loving | March 6th, 2015 @ 05:35 PM
I am asssuming that this is because of the html->markdown conversion, but sometimes when I try to forward an email to someone else (in this case, an invoice formatted with an html table), the resulting text is mangled horribly.
Either the markdown conversion needs to be improved considerably, or you need to add rich text support to replies.

You are correct about the conversion. The only alternative is to use “Message ▸ Forward as Attachment...” -- or in some cases “Message ▸ Redirect...”.
The problem is of course that the composer in MailMate is a plain text editor. I have no plans to change that, but I do plan to improve how replying and forwarding HTML emails is handled. If it works as expected then it should work as well (or as bad) as it does in email clients with HTML composers -- with the exception that the forwarded/replied HTML cannot be edited. This is a high priority item. If this is not sufficient for your needs then you can rightfully consider it a deal breaker. You can also get a refund if you have recently bought MailMate.
I'll update this ticket when/if there is any progress on this issue. Thanks for the feedback.

No, I haven't bought it yet. Unfortunately, it is a deal breaker for me because whenever I deal with such an email, I am forced to switch to a different mail client.

Fair enough. I'll let you know via this ticket when HTML forwarding/replying has been improved. If you prefer a direct email then let me know via “Help ▸ Send Feedback”.

I'm already following this ticket, so that will be fine. Thanks!

Recently installed Mailmate as an alternate option to Mac Mail and experiencing the same issue. The best use case would be forwarding a travel itinerary item to TripIt. Given the lost HTML format TripIt unfortunately cannot translate the itinerary into its format.
Checking whether any progress has been made on this functionality? Other than that love the app.

@Brad: I've made a lot of progress since March 6th, but it's not quite ready for testing yet. It's a high priority item and I'm quite sure it would work well for your use case. MailMate is still going to be a plain text email client, but it'll be able to inline forwarded/replied HTML. The end result is essentially the same as generated by an email client with an HTML editor.
I'll update this and a number of other tickets when this feature is available.

Benny,
this has become also a high priority issue.
I'm forwarding quite a bit of HTML emails (generated eg by a marketing automation systems) with buttons /call-to-actions etc, so HTML forwarding is essential.
Can you pls inform us on planned timing?
Thanks,
Edwin -

I am also finding this extremely difficult to work around, as I do all my travel planning with TripIt. I had assumed it was just their mail system being broken, but now after several months of problems I found this thread and find that it's my mail client.

Benny, what's the status of this? I'm currently using MailMate as my main email client, with the exception of replying/forwarding HTML heavy emails for which I need to switch to Apple Mail. Not really ideal, but in some cases I really have to because of the screw up of the original HTML email. I know you don't like HTML in emails, but that's business reality. I hope you can get this addressed soon so I can stop using Apple mail completely.
Thanks for your update on the status of this. This is really igh priority as for as I'm concerned.
Cheers,

@Edwin: This is still my top priority, but it's a tricky issue. I'm making progress and I believe I've solved the main issues. It's not ready for testing yet, but when it is then I expect it to solve most HTML related issues and as a bonus it'll also include some novel features. I've added you to a short list of early testers -- I need some users which frequently forward and reply to HTML emails. Let me know if you don't want me to do that.

Happy to help as well. Would love not have to have to keep going back to OSX Mail.

I fit that category, and would be happy to test. This has been my single largest issue with Mailmate for some time.

@Matthew: Write me an email and I'll put you on the list (not 100% sure what your email address is).

@Benny: I'm evaling MailMate, too, and I have this problem. I was working on hacking around a solution by just cutting and pasting an MIME Html session, but I'm guessing that's not going to work without the source code.
Even though I am not yet a customer, could I be added onto the list to beta test. I just signed up for the trial yesterday, and so far, I like what I see. But not being able to forward or add HTML segments would be a deal breaker in my corp environment.
Thanks,
-Mike -

Plus, if you want me to purchase the program, no problem, Happy to do that. But I don't want to if I can't use it for work.
Thanks!

@Mike: Write me an email via “Help ▸ Send Feedback” and I'll point you to the beta. Heavy testing of the HTML embedding features is very welcome.

Confirming that this would be a very helpful feature for me as well! Most notably for forwarding travel itineraries and receipts.

@Chris: It should work much better in an upcoming release of MailMate. It's not really public yet, but I already shared a link on the MailMate mailing list. Here you go: https://freron.com/twopointoh
