Request: organize list of proposed addresses

Reported by Thomas Hanke | April 15th, 2011 @ 10:12 AM

(Related to #106, #108)

I'd like to have some way to organize the proposed addresses, mostly to reduce the number of addresses of peripheral interest.

My address book is quite small, but the list of previous addresses includes some (/ lots of) people I probably never contact again.

This diminishes the usefulness of the autocompletion quite a lot.

    Would your problem be solved if it was possible to prioritize Address
    Book entries before previous recipients?

    Note that previous recipients are sorted by date. The number of entries
    in the list should not be a problem as long as the top-most items are
    the ones you need.

    I can see that it is a problem when Address Book entries are below
    previous recipients, but it could also be a problem when they are above
    previous recipients since the date sorting is then useless. I'll see if
    I can come up with a solution to both problems.

    (Ideally I'd like graphics to show the origin of an address, but unfortunately it is difficult to alter the standard GUI component used
    without re-implementing it from scratch.)

    Indeed, it could be nice to prioritize Address Book entries before previous recipients and, in these two different groups, to prioritize by a coefficient depending on both the last date and the volume of the correspondence.

    For instance, a formula like

    priority = 0
    for each message in list:
      priority = priority + 1/days_elapsed(message)
    end

    gives importance to the volume of the correspondence weighted by the time elapsed since each message has been sent or received.

    It is not (yet) as advanced as suggested by tantignac, but the problem with duplicate entries has been fixed and Address Book entries have a higher priority.
