Malemute stopped suddenly
Reported by David Crippen | November 15th, 2014 @ 05:32 PM
As of this morning, Mailmate neither receives or sends mail (photo 1). However, mail is coming into the University server and I can find it in that mailbox (Photo 2). Nothing changed overnight that I can think of.

If the messages are in INBOX under the source then MailMate does receive the messages. I'm not sure what could trigger them to not be display in the universal Inbox. Does it make a difference if you relaunch MailMate?
Receiving and sending are separate issues: What happens if you try to send a message? Any error messages? Are the messages pending in the Drafts folder?
Which revision of MailMate are you currently using (see the About window)?

Mail is received in the server inbox and can be sent from that box. Nothing appears in the Mailmate inbox and anything /sent from that box is received in the server inbox, not the Mailmate box. I relaunched and threw away preferences plist and no changes. I restarted the mac and reset the ROM and that didn't make any difference either. No error messages. No messages in the draft folder. Revision 1.8, said to be the latest one. Mac OS 10.10 Yosemite. This is out of the blue with no changes, last night working perfectly.

Malemute works fine on my laptop. It's just this desktop computer. (Mac)

Also does not show any mail anywhere. Deleted, sent, archived. All mailboxes empty.

These are all the universal mailboxes (a virtual mailbox used to show emails from multiple accounts in a single mailbox). This means that this is mainly a display issue since you can both send and receive messages.
I may have to create a debug version of MailMate to find out more. I assume you haven't added/removed/changed IMAP accounts in any way?
Could you send me this file:
~/Library/Application Support/MailMate/Sources.plist
(You can use “Help ▸ Send Feedback” if you like to do it by email.) -

I have done nothing at all to the source, the University of Pittsburgh IMAP mail server and the Mailmate app on my laptop is working fine. File attached.

The settings look fine. It's very strange behavior and I have no similar reports. I'll take another look at it tomorrow and see what I can do to debug the issue.
Do you have the same single account on your laptop? Running the same revision of MailMate?

Same account for all the computers, three of them, two desktops and one laptop. All have same version of MailMate. I have been registered for over a year.

It just got worse, now there is no evidence of the Pitt server on the list and I cannot send anything. Piles up in drafts.

That last problem is just because the list is hidden. Hover the mouse over the SOURCES line and you should see the word “show”. Click on that.
I would like to see the following file:
~/Library/Application Support/MailMate/Mailboxes.plist
Also, if your IMAP account is not huge then I think it's worth a try to simply reset MailMate and force it to refetch all messages.
To make sure you do not unexpectedly lose anything then we'll make a copy of the old files first. Paste the following lines in a Terminal window (all of them in one go):
osascript -e 'quit app "MailMate"' && \ mv ~/Library/Application\ Support/MailMate ~/Desktop && \ mkdir ~/Library/Application\ Support/MailMate && \ cp ~/Desktop/MailMate/*.plist ~/Library/Application\ Support/MailMate/
What it does:
- Quits MailMate
- Moves all MailMate files to your Desktop in a folder named
MailMate.
- Creates a new MailMate folder.
- Copies the settings files from the old folder to the new folder (accounts, signatures, etc.).
Launch MailMate and wait for the m
- Quits MailMate

This is what it's showing me on Terminal:
osascript -e 'quit app "MailMate"' && \
-bash: : command not found David:~ davidcrippen$ mv ~/Library/Application\ Support/MailMate ~/Desktop && \
-bash: : command not found David:~ davidcrippen$ mkdir ~/Library/Application\ Support/MailMate && \
-bash: : command not found David:~ davidcrippen$ cp ~/Desktop/MailMate/*.plist ~/Library/Application\ Support/MailMate/ -

I tried trashing the desktop MailMate app and replacing the MailMate icon from my laptop, didn't work.

There is a problem with your INBOX settings in Mailboxes.plist. You can do one of the following:
-
Double-click the icon of “Inbox” to edit the settings. Remove the condition you have added to this mailbox.
-
Quit MailMate and delete
Mailboxes.plist
to reset to the default settings.
I don't know what failed with the Terminal commands, but you won't need them if the above works as expected.

I now see mail on the MailMate INBOX, however i cannot send mail. I get the following error:
"No from address provided for message to be sent".

Go to “File ▸ Edit IMAP Account ▸ ...” and then verify that your account has an address listed in the “Email Address(es)” text field.

I PUT MY OWN ADDRESS IN THERE AND NOW IT SEEMS TO BE WORKING PROPERLY. THANKS BENNY. YOU'RE THE BEST!

- State changed from new to resolved
Well, I'm sorry it took so long to get resolved. I should have asked for your all of your plist-files earlier on.
But I'm glad it works now :-)
