Honor configured message-list order in message threads.

Reported by Roland Dobbins | November 13th, 2014 @ 12:43 PM

I have configured MailMate to present newer messages at the top of the message-list GUI (i.e., reverse order).

However, when I expand a thread, the thread is in standard chronological order, with focus on the very first message in the thread.

Thread display should honor whichever order is selected under MailMate preferences.

It's not as simple as that. MailMate only has a strict threading mode showing all parent-child relationships in a multilevel hierarchy. This threading mode cannot easily be date-reversed. What is really needed is a different single-level threading mode, but unfortunately I haven't implemented that yet. It's already covered by other tickets, but I'll keep this one open as well until I have something to offer.

Tried to find the other ticket, but could not find it, so I'll add my comment here.

I do like my threads to be ordered in oldest first even if I have my list of messages sorted in reverse order. However, I would like it to be really sorted on oldest first. I.e. not oldest none replied messages, and then replied messages.

For example, when you review a large patchset you do not want to see them out of order because some of the messages in the thread are replied to.

@Eelco: So, if a single-level threading mode is implemented then you would like to be able to have the outer level and inner level sorted in opposite directions? I can make a note of that since I don't think this would technically be much of a problem. The hard part is probably how to best allow such a configuration option :)
