feature request: address lookup from anywhere in the email address

Reported by Cheshire | October 6th, 2014 @ 07:00 PM

Hi there -- it would be helpful if the address lookup while filling in the recipient for a new message could utilize every part of the available email addresses. For example, if I know someone's domain but have forgotten the first part of the address or their name, I can't just start typing the domain and have possible solutions come up. Or is there a way I could do that already that I don't know about?

The only way I can get the forgotten address is to do a custom search of my received emails so I can find that person. But the suggestion I have above would be much more efficient and convenient.

Thanks!
Cheshire

@Chesire: Thanks for the feedback. There is no way to do that. Also, it is not quite obvious how it should work in practice since these matches would not be at the beginning of a word. For many/most users it would probably also result in a large number of useless completion suggestions. For example, entering 'g' would probably almost always first suggest a recently used Gmail-address. More is not always better.

(I cannot, by the way, easily add this and make it optional.)

It is more likely that I'll make it easier to do the custom search.
