Spinning pizza when selecting and deleting e-mails

Reported by Meindert | April 2nd, 2014 @ 03:21 AM

When selecting e-mails to delete, and then later after clicking the Delete button, I notice a perceptible delay, and I usually encounter the "spinning pizza" cursor. Is this just a side effect of IMAP, or should I be looking to see if my computer is overloaded with some other task?

If the app is just waiting for confirmation from a remote server, maybe as an interface solution you could just batch such requests and hide them from the user, and if an hour later you're unable to complete any of them, display a dialog at that time informing the user.

I would like to do some major Spring cleaning in my mailboxes, but these delays sap my patience very quickly.

If you have any antivirus software installed then that could be a problem as described in ticket #417.

In any case, it's not a side-effect of IMAP which is handled asynchronously. It's more likely to be related to the actions taken by MailMate. This shouldn't be much though if by “deleting” you mean moving to “Deleted Messages”. If you mean deleting from “Deleted Messages” then more work could be involved since MailMate updates internal database indexes.

    Are you low on memory?

It is probably very likely that you can tell VirusBarrier to skip specific folders. In this case it should be this folder:

    ~/Library/Application Support/MailMate/Database.noindex

MailMate does not save anything in this folder which could be a virus (in other words, no attachments).
