A way to remove unified inbox and show folders per account

Reported by Ilya Semenov | March 26th, 2014 @ 01:43 PM

I was wondering if there's any plans on improving the multiple accounts support in MailMate or MailMate 2?

I just stumbled upon your website and I was very pleased with the rhetorics and overall "image" of the product as being the mail client for the rest of us, but when I installed the app I discovered that it couldn't really be used effectively. I have several totally unrelated email accounts and not only that there's no sense in mixing emails from all of them, it's very counter-effective.

For instance, what's the point of having personal emails from my sister thrown to the same folder with my work-related email? A normal person's head doesn't work that way. When I work with personal emails, I don't want to even SEE work-related folders (not saying about emails!), and vice versa, when I work with my business emails, I don't want to see my personal folders like "Shopping" and "Travel". Even the workflows are different in different accounts, e.g. I "archive" my personal emails but I leave my business Inbox as is. Any attempt to "unify" all this is a predictable failure.

The only modern mail client which does that right is Postbox. I pick the account, and I work with it. No need to collapse anything, no need to scroll. One click operation, simple as that. Postbox bugs me in many different scenarios though, and its development is stuck, so I'm looking for a replacement. So, any hope there's going to be (optional) similar multiple accounts UI in MailMate any time soon? I will invest by purchasing a license key in that case, even though I can't use it at the moment.

Sorry, no chance that it'll be soon. Technically, it's not a problem, but it's a bit hard to integrate with the current approach to displaying mailboxes. I'll note to consider a solution for your problem when I revisit the mailbox outline design.

I've marked this ticket as bluesky. It doesn't mean I oppose the idea, it just means it's not something you should expect soon.

    Thanks for considering MailMate.
