Database error - redownloading **all** messages

Reported by steve3001 (at gmail) | February 14th, 2013 @ 02:22 PM

Hi. Have just received an internal database error which asked me to close MailMate and then offered 3 options on re-opening

  • do nothing: tried this and the same error occurred
  • redownload cached messages: (foolishly?) didn't try this
  • redownload messages: tried this and it has just deleted all of my messages and is now re-downloading several gigabytes worth.

Is this intentional? And if it is then the error message really should warn me that it is about to wipe my entire local mailbox.

What to do next time?

    • State changed from “new” to “accepted”

First of all, your Messages should have been moved to the trash folder if you think you had any offline messages which were not on the IMAP server.

    The options presented were:

    • Nothing
    • Rebuild database based on cached messages
    • Rebuild database by redownloading messages

And yes, you should first have tried the second option which exists because the third option is time consuming. I've tried to keep the error message as simple as possible, but I can add that the options should be tried from top to bottom. The help button in the window links to this page which provides a more detailed explanation (including the top-to-bottom advice).

Sorry about the inconvenience! If you have any details on what happened before the inconsistency was reported then please let me know.

    Hi Benny.
OK. I realise I had probably skipped a step.
However, everything has gone. There is nothing in any of the trash folders and the IMAP folders for the accounts have been deleted as well. Before the incident I simply got a message saying there was an inconsistency with one of the messages - in my inbox I think.

PS. And I can't reply via email to this ticket (am adding the text above the line of '=' as requested but I keep getting the following message

We received an email from this address that had problems being processed into a new Lighthouse ticket:

You do not have access to post to the MailMate project.

Sorry for the late reply (I don't know when I can send it since wifi is down at my current location).

I meant the trash can of the Finder. The one in the Dock. This was just to provide a way in which you might be able to locate messages which were not on your IMAP server.

When you reply by email then you must send from the address you registered with lighthouseapp (it is a third party service which is not under my control). If this is not the issue then they have a support forum.

Oh, the error reported seems to indicate that lighthouseapp thinks you are trying to create a new message. I'm not sure what could trigger that other than some change to the To header when replying. You can forward the message in your Sent Messages mailbox to me if you would like me to take a look at it.
