I tried setting up a dummy account with the same IMAP settings, but I do not get a connection error. I also tried connecting in a Terminal window like this:
openssl s_client -connect imap.comcast.net:993
This also worked (you need to use Ctrl-D to disconnect if you try this and you get a connection).
Does it work for you, e.g., in Apple Mail?
Just to make sure it's not a fixed issue. You can try the cutting edge release of MailMate: MailMate_r6037

Hmm, very strange. Apple mail works fine.
Mailmate does work on my mac intel laptop but not on my m1 desktop. I tried r6036 as well, no luck.

Any local firewall which might work on an app-based basis, e.g., Little Snitch?
Do you have other accounts configured in MailMate which do work?
Other than that I'm out of ideas. I think it's somehow related to your setup, but I'm not really an expert on everything that can go wrong with network setup.
