Displayed Counts Don't Add Up
Reported by infotexture | January 8th, 2013 @ 06:20 PM
The Displayed Count option in the context menu allows you to specify which message states increment the counters in each folder/source (Unread, Flagged, etc.)
It is nice to be able to configure different settings for each
folder, for example to count unread items in the
INBOX
, but ignore them in Trash
,
Spam
, etc.
The problem is that the counter for the source always displays the total, regardless of the settings for the individual subfolders.
For example, if I set the INBOX
counter to Unread
and all others to None, the source counter will show the sum of all
unread items, not just those in the INBOX
, even though
I set the other folders to None.

I get your point, but it would be nice with a “cleaner” solution. It seems weird if selecting the Inbox shows you a set of messages with X unread messages, but that the counter does not include them, because counting has been disabled for a submailbox. I would also not be surprised if some users want the total count to include all messages and still be able to use other counters for the submailboxes, for example, flagged messages.
It seems what you really need is to ignore some of those inboxes most of the time. Maybe what you need is better ways to hide or reorganize mailboxes (a universal Inbox only including a subset of inboxes). In this case, maybe you would like to be able to mark an INBOX of an account to not be included in the universal Inbox. Or maybe mark the entire account as one that should not participate in universal mailboxes -- I could use that myself. This would make it an account setting and more likely to be implemented since I need it ;-)
