Why my rules in smart mailbox do not run automatically?
Reported by Anonymous | October 10th, 2022 @ 01:00 AM
I read from the mailing list which suggested that I can imitate scheduled rules/automatically run rules by marrying smart mailbox and email rules but it has been unsuccessful for me. Despite the smart mailbox updates items in the mailbox based on the conditions, an email rule without conditions to move all emails displayed in the smart mailbox to a specific folder never took effect for me. Of course, it works whenever I manually select the emails and apply rules or reset the emails as instructed here. I tried tweaking smart mailbox's Mailboxes and Conditions in an attempt to test smart mailbox's auto run rules but to no avail.
I'm sorry for not replying to the mailing list thread instead of submitting a ticket here because I'm unfamiliar with the mailing list technology and unprepared to subscribe to the mailing list just to be able to interact because the mailing list would overwhelm my inbox because my email service and email client on other devices don't have built-in filtering to manage email list subscriptions.

Rules are only “checked” when an email “arrives” in a mailbox (this also happens when you reset a message).
Note that date/time-based mailbox conditions are tricky, because if MailMate was not running when the time was “satisfied” then it won't arrive in the smart mailbox, because it's already part of the mailbox when MailMate is launched.
Could any of this explain your problem?
It's fine that you don't want to use the mailing list. You can also use “Help > Send Feedback”.

Thanks for your response. After reading your response, I tried to write in to you through the app's built-in feedback function ( Help > Send Feedback ) but it was unsuccessful because the Send Feedback option is disabled for me.
For the specifics of my intent: I'm trying to filter my inbox by an email's age (vary by read status, sender, type of email determined by the rules) by automatically moving older emails to " (Dated) " (without quotes, the name of the folder includes brackets) subfolder of Inbox. In this testing stage, the intended algorithm is simple: all emails older than 30 days in Inbox shall be moved to the specified folder. To keep this email setup suitable for practical day-to-day use, this filtering has to be reflected across all platforms including but not limited to the web version and my mobile device. Therefore, automated email rules on IMAP-synced existing messages are necessary to fulfil my needs. Client-side-only filtering (i.e. only on MailMate display but not on other devices) is inadequate for my needs.
Clarification: The smart mailbox conditions (source) and display of filtered emails in the smart mailbox work perfectly for me with no problem. However, the rule (action) to move the filtered emails (all items displaying in the smart mailbox) to a specified folder never worked for me, it remains in the source mailbox ( Inbox ).
