MM not syncing back to server

Reported by Jason Davies | May 5th, 2022 @ 02:35 PM

Set up:

  • MM running on Mac Mini M1;
  • MM running on MB Air;
  • Preside emailer on iPhone;
  • Preside emailer on iPad.

Deleting and filing on the Mac Mini appears to have an effect (messages vanish from inbox, reappear in folders they are sent to, etc) but these changes do not show up on the other three devices (after 24 hours, long enough interval!). Any such actions on any of the others show up in all devices, eg deleting a message on the phone leads to MM deleting on both the laptop and the Mac mini. The only issue is that the Mac Mini installation of MM does not seem to transmit the changes.
Activity Viewer does not show any errors I can parse.

Happy to provide any more information or try remedies (eg rebuilding).

    Please verify that the destination mailboxes are online:

    • Expand the account under Sources in the mailbox list on the left.
    • Make sure no mailboxes are greyed out.

    If this is not the problem then check if you have any persistent spinners, that is, if the account is somehow stuck synchronizing something.

    MailMate is an offline IMAP email client which means that most actions can be done while offline and they are then synchronized when possible. Unfortunately, MailMate isn't very good at telling you if something is “stuck”, that is, waiting to be synchronized for a long time. This would, for example, happen if a destination mailbox (of moving a message) has been taken offline for some reason. This would mean that MailMate will show you the move as complete, but it hasn't yet happened on the server.

    Taking a mailbox offline shouldn't happen without the user being told about a problem at some point, but that could potentially be a long time ago.

    Aha. Both 'Sent Messages' and 'Deleted Messages' were offline, and looks like that was since the time it started (4th May). It looks like it was something to do with a message that was too large (lots of photo attachments) though that was from April 7. When syncing it threw it back up and said it was too large (I think it was trying to 'duplicate' as it does sometimes in Sent). I deleted all instances and all seems to be working now. Many thanks.
