Original email not quoted when replying

When replying to emails from one specific person, original email is not quoted but rather than is an empty square character.

There is a ticket from 2015 with this issue for all emails, but in my case it only happens with one particular user. I receive and can reply normally to other emails from other senders at this particular company who are all using Outlook, have similar signatures, etc., so not sure why this one user's emails are causing this issue.

When composing my reply, I can see the original email (with all the > marks) in the top pane, but in the message preview area it just says:

On 31 Mar 2022 at 18:28 Person A wrote:

And that is what the eventual reply email will look like after it's sent. (Disabling message preview changes nothing).

Background: User since 2013, never had this issue before. Switched to new computer recently, Migration Assistant didn't transfer everything properly so had to manually move over from old computer to new computer most of my Library (Application Support, Preferences, etc.) Clearly this is the culprit but at loss as to how to fix.

    I also have this issue. Long time user, completely at a loss to fix this one.

    Not quite sure why the previous comment got marked as spam, but I also have this problem. Quoted HTML in the Markdown preview windows contracted down to a single junk character.

    Matthew: I've now marked you as “not a spammer” which will hopefully help. The system currently identifies most things as spam :(

    Kurt: Hold down ⌥ when clicking “Check Now” in the Software Update preferences pane to get the latest test release. Then write me again if the issue persists. Maybe write me via “Help > Send Feedback” to provide as many details as possible.

    I was having this problem as well and came across this ticket while reviewing issues ahead of filing a new one.

    benny, I tried your recommendation to Kurt to try the latest test release, and this appears to solve my problem (at least for the case I tried so far).

    If I can provide anything to help further, please don't hesitate to ask.

    I was having the same issue and sent feedback on November, 16th, 2023. Today I decided to get support another way, found this, download built 6016 and it works again. 👍️
