Gmail and iCloud suddenly (unavailable)
Reported by Alex Fazio | November 11th, 2021 @ 03:09 AM
Both Gmail and iCloud had gone offline suddenly and are not reconnecting to their servers.
I've tried re-syncing multiple times and generating new application password for iCloud. Didn't work.
Also attempted restarting app and restarting macos. Connection works fine with any other app. Also as update has completed I assume Mailmate can speak with the internet no problem.
I've also updated to the latest build to see if anything would change and it did not.
MacOS 12.0.1 (21A559)
MailMate Version 1.14 (5845)

Mailmate also stopped to display messages
Stopping Malwarebytes and re-setting multiple messages did not fix the problem. Neither giving full disk access to MailMate from scratch:
Warning: Email not available on disk
### What happened?
MailMate was unable to find the email on disk. This means that you can see the headers of the message above, but you cannot see the real content of the email. The real content is still available on your IMAP server.
NOTE: Be careful. If you delete this email then you also delete the real email on the server.
### Why did this happen?
The most likely explanation is that you have anti-virus software installed which has some kind of quarantine feature. MailMate saved the email to disk, but the file was then immediately or later moved by the anti-virus software to a different location — presumably because malicious content was detected in the email.
MailMate detected this problem when trying to load an email from disk.
### Now what?
The best solution is to tell the anti-virus software to ignore the following folder:
~/Library/Application Support/MailMate/Messages
This should be quite safe, because if you try to view an attachment in such a message then it is first saved to a folder and this folder would still be monitored by the anti-virus software:
~/Library/Application Support/MailMate/Attachments
Note that if you do this then you can refetch messages using the “Message ▸ Reset...” menu item.
### I don't have antivirus software!
In that case the problem might be a MailMate bug. Please contact support by using the “Help ▸ Send Feedback” menu item.

First, be careful with replacing “~/Library/Application Support/MailMate” if you have used the “Custom Location” feature in the General preferences pane.
To make sure we get a clean start, I suggest (re)moving anything but the
.plist
files in this folder:~/Library/Application Support/MailMate/
Then launch MailMate and take accounts online under Sources in the mailbox list if that hasn't already happened. MailMate should then, in theory, start synchronizing accounts from scratch.
If it still fails (which it likely will) then it appears the problem is related to the network connection. Have you changed anything in “System Preferences > Network”? Maybe related to the use of proxies? Or a firewall?
What if you open a Terminal window and connect manually to Gmail like this:
openssl s_client -crlf -connect imap.gmail.com:993
If it succeeds then you can disconnect by entering:
0 logout
If it doesn't succeed then the problem is definitely not related to MailMate.
