Significant delays receiving Fastmail - build 5818

Reported by John Cooper | October 13th, 2021 @ 05:38 PM

I use Fastmail with MailMate build 5818 on a Mac mini (2018) running Big Sur (Mac OS 11.6). When I use the web interface to access Fastmail, my messages appear virtually as soon as they're sent. In MailMate, it can take fifteen minutes or more for the same messages to arrive.

I've been using MailMate for so many years I've forgotten how to configure some of the settings, but when I select my Inbox and open Mailbox > Synchronization Schedule, all the submenu items are grayed out, so there's nothing to configure there, at least.

Any information about how to make MailMate more responsive would be very helpful. The web interface is very primitive compared to MailMate, but I need to see my messages more quickly.

The problem has got worse to the point where MailMate is virtually unusable: spinning wheels for minutes on end on my MacBook Air (M1). I understand that this is not a problem with a single easy fix for all cases, but we need troubleshooting steps or tips. I'd hate to stop using MailMate after so many years.

FWIW, as an additional datapoint on this, I have been using Fastmail w/ MM for many years & generally (99.99% of the time) emails arrive in MM within a few seconds of my other devices & Fastmail webmail.

Continues to be the case lately (last few weeks) and today as well. I receive on average ~15-20 emails a day, including SPAM.

Under MM 1.13.2 (5673) and OS X Mojave 10.14.6, 2019 Macbook Pro. (not that the hardware matters much I don't think..)

I've reconfigured my account settings to explicitly specify the provider's suggested ports, but there's no change. I should also add that this is not a matter of the synchronization schedule. Just now I received a message notification from Apple Mail on my phone. I also immediately saw the message on the Fastmail web interface. But when I synchronize my Fastmail account on Mailmate, no message appears, even minutes later.
