Protonmail Sync issues

I'm having repeated problems with syncing my protonmail account to MailMate. The latest error message reads: MailMate encountered the following error: "Server response: "*BAD CR or LF not allowed in quoted string."

I tried to troubleshoot it, failed, removed Protonmail entirely and tried to reinstall it. Now it is permanently disconnected and I can't seem to reconnect it.

What can I do?
