Cyrillic file names in attachments (r5810 and earlier test releases ) not readable in web mail.
Reported by Andrey | May 29th, 2021 @ 12:58 AM
After sendng attachments with cyrillic symbols (for example file
name
ДОБАВОЧНАЯ
СПЕЦИФИКАЦИЯ.xlsx)
on receiving it in gmail web interface (and other mail services
with web interface) we got file name
%d0%94%d0%9e%d0%91%d0%90%d0%92%d0%9e%d0%a7%d0%9d%d0%90%d0%af
%d0%a1%d0%9f%d0%95%d0%a6%d0%98%d0%a4%d0%98%d0%9a%d0%90%d0%a6%d0%98%d0%af.xlsx
After sending the same file with apple mail or Spark everything is
ok, file names are correct. It looks like the problem appeared in
test releases for Big Sure.
This solved the problem:
defaults write com.freron.MailMate MmSMTPUTF8Enabled -bool YES
it is OK now.

That setting might result in other issues (outside the control of MailMate).
If you have time then you could check if the latest test release works without the setting: r5831.

r5831 the same problem, attachments readable only with SMTPUTF8 enabled.

Thanks for trying. There's a newer release now which is less buggy (but doesn't help on this issue): r5835.
I'd like you to send me example emails from Spark and Apple Mail using “Help > Send Feedback” in MailMate (just drag them into the composer to attach them). Then I can compare how these apps differ from MailMate when generating file names (when I have time to look into this).

A quick look reveals it might be a bug related to the use of newlines. Does it work if you send an email with a very short cyrillic name like
ДО.xslx
? -
Andrey October 7th, 2021 @ 08:03 PM
Hi, with short names like ДО.xls etc I have same result, file names are not readable.(not readable only in webmail and mobile clients of that webmail, like gmail, mail.ru etc).
Sent to feedback mail example from mailmate with message received from apple mail. -

I still think there's a newline issue, but that appears to not be the reason it doesn't work for you. Apparently some email clients require the use of the
name
paramater inContent-Type
. At least that's my theory. I'll look into it. -

I believe this was fixed a little while ago. Hold down ⌥ when clicking “Check Now” in the Software Update preferences pane to get the latest test release.
