"Message Sent" sound is wrong (Crystal)

Reported by Michael Ray Brown | May 20th, 2021 @ 11:41 PM

The latest build (5807) of the "test" release plays the wrong sound when sending mail. Even though "Sent Mail" is the sound selected in Preferences, it plays a standard alert sound.

Yup, just noticing that this morning. Version 1.14 (5807).

Notes on yesterday's update (5808) indicate the issue with "Sent" sound has been fixed. However, it still persists on my system. Seems it simply plays the standard alert sound.

Verified it still doesn't work in 5808. Reset the sound in Preferences, quit and relaunched, and fired off a test message. The standard alert sound plays instead of 'Send'.

Could you verify that it also fails after force quitting “Notification Centre” in Activity Monitor? Alternatively, restart the machine.

Also, where is MailMate installed? Does it make a difference if you move it to /Applications/?

(The new API used for playing sounds is a bit conservative with regard to the disk locations of the sounds allowed. It also uses some caching which can make it tricky to debug.)

Quitting "Notification Center" causes the "Send" sound to work as it should. It also works after rebooting.

Thanks for finding a way around Apple's new tricks. MailMate is installed in the Applications folder.

I've restarted my machine a few times today but the problem persisted afterwards; it was killing Notification Centre that worked for me.

... And my MailMate is in my local Applications folder (i.e., ~/Applications, not /Applications).

I'm not hearing any Sent sound on Big Sur. I updated to 5807 after I went to Big Sur last weekend, and updated again a few minutes ago to 5809. I force-quit the Notification Centre as suggested here, but no change. If I go into MailMate's Preferences and select the Sent sound, it plays, but when I send a message, nothing. MM is installed in /Applications.

@Des: Do you hear a sound for incoming messages? Are you sure “Do Not Disturb” is not enabled? Also, check that Notifications are allowed in the System Preferences > Notifications pane.
